Our Advisory Board
Judy Bartel
Judy rec
ently retired after a 25 year career as a Student Advisor and Director of Student Services at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, Manitoba. "Retirement" has not meant that life is less busy - only that there is a modicum of flexibility and liberty in how that life is spent. Education, in its many forms, is still a primary interest, along with an interest in international development and cross-cultural communication. In addition to some consulting work, she volunteers with several community organizations including Director and committee member and volunteer for the Marquis Project, a local Manitoban NGO whose mandate is "connecting Manitobans with the developing world". A trip to visit a Marquis' partner project in Tanania served to cement Judy's view that the absence of quality education (particularly for women) is the most critical single factor that limits social and economic development in the world's poorest countries - hence her interest in the work of Amarok Society.
